It's a case of Art in the Mill 09

Held on the May Long Weekend (1st – 4th) “It’s a case of Art in the Mill” is now in its 9th year. 10 award-winning artists from Stanthorpe to Tenterfield bring their most recent work together in the unique setting of the historic Ballandean Timber Case Making Mill, Curr Road, Ballandean.

From the microscopic to the ephemeral, the beauty of the local environment has been interpreted by the artists using acrylics, water colours, silk, print making, clay, wood, stone and glass.Guest artists for 09 are Linda Nye, Eva Rasmussen, Allan English, Julie Salmon and Chris Humphreys.

Highly qualified print maker, Eva, studies and records lifecycles looking for the small, often hidden, beautiful structure in organic matter.

Lynda paints with acrylics with a bent towards abstract. Redesigning the landscape, Linda puts her own footprint on a scene through the use of colour, line and brushwork.

Returning this year are water colour artists Julie Salmon and Allan English. Allan’s work is derived from personal visits to the painted locations using striking colours and effective detail. Chris Humphrey’s sculptures in wood and stone send strong messages making the viewer ponder, think and smile.

Regular exhibitors, artist Sue Jurd, wildlife sculptor Maggie Brockie, ceramic artist Alba Conti, master potter Albert Verschuuren, and glass and wood artist Michael Pieper have created a case full of surprises.
Sue’s silk paintings, some enhanced with thread, will range from Australian flora through to large contemporary pieces.

Michael’s talent for fusing glass and local wood has created warm, light filled, two and three dimensional pieces.

Alba is keeping her creations under wraps until opening night.

Albert’s craftsmanship using local clay and ash glazes, has produced superb wood fired pots.

Maggie’s realistic possums, predators, and peaceful stylized animal forms will be discovered hidden among the cases at the mill.

Opening on Friday night 1st May the exhibition continues over the long weekend from 10am to sundown.
